FAREWELL BUT NOT GOODBYE On Saturday night 16th June a large
CHANGES TO THE CAMPING GROUND
Despite the short notice a well- attended meeting took place on 21st June to discuss proposed changes to the camping area and amenities block. Present was a large group of interested locals and several Council representatives including Mayor Bill West, Councillor Ray Walsh, General Manager Paul Devery and Services Manager Chris Cannard. We were advised that Council was required to provide clearly delineated areas for vans and (for reasons of available space, safety and accessibility) 8 powered sites will be clearly marked. A new septic system will be installed and some upgrading to the amenities block will also be carried out. We were fortunate to have some seasoned ‘grey nomads’ at the meeting who made valuable suggestions to Council from the campers’ perspective. Many thanks to all who came along.
Fight Drought – plant trees!
DPI research tells us what we already know - removing trees promotes drought. When trees are removed, heat is reflected rather than absorbed, which means less moisture evaporates into the atmosphere and, in the long run, less rain falls. So, plant more trees!

Have a Happy
National Tree Day! Sunday 29th July
Remember when it was called Arbor Day? This day has been around since the late 19th century (in many countries) and provides an opportunity to do something positive for the environment and reconnect with nature. In 2012 Schools Tree Day will be on Friday 27th July, although events can be held on any date during the year.
crowd of friends and well-wishers gathered at the Gooloogong Country Club to farewell Chris Pearce. Chris has been a familiar face around the Club for several years as barman, groundkeeper, cleaner and general jack-of-all- trades. A skilled baker, Chris has chosen to return to that career, opening his new bakery at Grenfell in May. He was quick to remind everyone that it definitely isn’t goodbye as you will still see him around on Saturdays! Club President Christine Pickard presented Chris with a gift, in appreciation of his valuable service to the Club while wife Myree surprised him with a birthday cake to celebrate his 40th
birthday.
We all wish Chris the best of luck in his new venture!
