Cowra Public School STAGE 3 EXCURSION TO BATHURST GOLDFIELDS

Last Friday, Stage 3 went to Bathurst Goldfields as part of their HSIE unit on Gold. After arriving at the goldfields the first thing they did was eat their recess. They then went into a real mine shaft which was underground. It was very humid and dark in the mineshaft and students fell over and got stepped on.

The students then went to the museum and saw Holtermans specimen and a hand drawn whim. Some of the students got to use the horse drawn whim. They then went to the blacksmiths and Trevor, the guide made a fire stoker. The students also got to see a working steam driven battery ram.

The students then discovered how the Chinese were able to get more gold out of the ground than Australians. Lastly they went panning for gold in the creek. The guide showed them how to get a lot of gold. Some of the students fell in the creek.

After a fun filled and packed with excitement day everyone headed back to school arriving at 3.00pm just in time for the afternoon buses.

Stage 3 students would like to thank the teachers involved. Below are some photographs of the excursion. By Billy Hunt and Adam Thain
