This is your last paper issue of Growing ME Green!
Due to rising costs of postage and printing and the ease and savings of electronic print, the MeLNA
Executive Committee voted unanimously to go electronic for it’s future newsletters. Therefore, it is of
utmost importance that you send the MeLNA office any changes in your email address and if you have
held it back for fear of a cluttered mailbox, now is the time to submit your email address. You may do
so by emailing . For a sample of the new electronic format, go to and click on the About MeLNA tab. Then, click on Growing ME Green and you will
see the last edition before you. A special note to advertisers: color ads will appear for the same low
price as before!
Should you absolutely require a paper issue, you may subscribe for it at $25.00 per year. Call the
MeLNA office to arrange delivery.
A New Venue for the 2009 MeLNA Trade Show
stJanuary 20 , 2009 is the date for the Maine Landscape and Nursery Association Annual Meeting and
Trade Show. Mark your calendars, and make note of the fact that, for the first time in a long time, it is
not being held at the Augusta Civic Center. Many of you have commented over the years that the
Civic Center is too expansive and too expensive, and you would like to see the show in a different
venue, and your Executive Committee heard you. We are please to announce that this year the show
will be held at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston. Our keynote speaker will be Bill Cullina, from Coastal
Maine Botanic Gardens. Bill will be presenting one of his extremely popular lectures on native plants.
Jim Dill will also join us. Jim is known throughout the industry for his horticultural Jeopardy game,
and word is, he’s gone High Tech! Don’t miss it! We will also be offering a couple of practical
lectures; Lt. Tom Kelly of the Maine State Police will present “Are You Subject to Commercial
Vehicle Laws”? and John Harbottle from Acadia Insurance will speak on Loss Prevention. Great
speakers, all your favorite exhibitors, and the new Supplier Showcase (details to follow) will make for
a fantastic show!
Obviously, this is a smaller venue, so some changes are in order, but we’re excited at the prospect of
this setting. The Ramada features a large multi purpose room for exhibitors and for lunch, a theater
for our keynote speaker, and smaller meeting rooms for other speakers and programs. The smaller
space means that you, the members, can’t be late in signing up for the show! The room for the keynote
holds less than 120 people, so tickets will be issued on a first come, first served basis. Additionally,
we’re limited in the number of exhibitors, so GET YOUR TICKETS AND RESERVE YOUR SPACE
EARLY! It’ll be here before you know it! Trade Show Chair, Mark Faunce, MCN, MCL
