Clivet extends rooftop series
CLIVET has launched the CLIVETPack rooftop series, combining comfort, sustainability and energy saving.
The CLIVETPack CSRN-XHE2 is the second generation of rooftop units that have evolved from the successful first generation CLIVETPack CSRN range. ClivetPack CSRT-XHE2 and CSRN-XHE2 deliver air flows from 8500 to 60000m3/h, with cooling capacities of between 175-376KW. Typical applications include supermarkets, retail, restaurants, train stations and airports.
The efficiency is delivered through the latest energy saving technology, incorporating double screw compressors achieving EERs of up to 4.4, with circuits designed to maximise part load operation. Together with the ability to offer free-cooling and low pressure drops through the electronic filtering system, the units provide automatic airflow control and the option of a variable speed airflow function.
All models are provided with an extract system, with an additional energy saving feature, in the thermodynamic heat recovery arrangement incorporated in the extract air section. Clivet UK

refrigeration system for frozen food storage at its distribution centre in Hertfordshire. With a national network of temperature controlled storage and distribution centres, Brakes supplies the UK foodservice industry with a full range of frozen and chilled food products. The company recently replaced the cold storage refrigeration plant at its Bishop’s Stortford facility with a new system from industrial cooling specialist Star Refrigeration.

The existing ammonia refrigeration plant at the site had come to the end of its operational life after 40 years and Brakes took the opportunity to seek a replacement system that would improve operating efficiency and reduce refrigerant charge. Focusing on these two key criteria, Star’s solution was to install a 250kW capacity Azanefreezer.
The high performance industrial freezer operates on a low charge of natural refrigerant ammonia and has zero global warming potential. Cooling is supplied at -25ºC through two ceiling evaporators.
The refrigerant charge on Brakes’ previous ammonia plant was an estimated

5,000kg, and Azanefreezer has reduced the refrigerant charge to just 188kg.
Star Refrigeration’s key account manager - food market, Alex Henderson, said: “Operating on natural refrigerant ammonia, Azanefreezer is exempt from current and future environmental legislation. Brakes has invested in a long term solution that will give over 25 years of reliable, energy efficient performance with low life-cycle costs.” Azanefreezer is an air-cooled ammonia refrigeration plant, incorporating twin screw compressors and an air- cooled condenser. The design incorporates a reverse cycle defrost system to ensure a fast and efficient defrost process, which the company claims is ‘unique’.
Fully packaged in a compact housing, Azanefreezer requires no plant room and site installation time is minimal.
In addition, Azanefreezer has a modular design which should make any future system relocation straightforward. Brakes Group’s
engineering manager, Ian Hunt, commented: “Star Refrigeration has a long history of installing and maintaining plants for Brakes and this latest Azanefreezer represents another successful collaboration.”

AS part of the recent transformation of the Royal Northern College of Music’s Concert Hall, Fläkt Woods has supplied a range of highly efficient air comfort equipment, including three eQ air handling units and two ReCooler Heat Pumps. The refurbishment project at the Manchester venue took place between January 2014 and November 2014, with the Concert Hall’s capacity increasing to 750. As a result, there was a requirement for supplementary heating and cooling capacity. Instead of replacing the main boiler or chiller plant, Fläkt Woods’ ReCooler HP units were specified to provide the required heating and cooling, in conjunction with the air handling system.
Mechanical consultant for the refurbishment was Elaine Bissell of Booth King Partnership. She said: “We knew from the outset that replacing any of the main heating and cooling plant was not an option, so we looked to the ventilation system to provide the increased requirement for heating and cooling. The ReCooler HP unit has proved to be a great choice and ideal for this type of refurbishment project, as not only are the units highly efficient, but they also offer an incredibly neat and tidy install.
