GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL, ENGLAND


Take a step back in time at Somerset’s world- famous Glastonbury festival. Founded in 1970, the five-day festival still rings true to its hippie and counter-culture roots. Performances are held on 900 acres of verdant farmland, and the event boasts the title of largest green-field music festival in the world. EXIT FESTIVAL, SERBIA


Held in the Petrovaradin Fortress on the banks of the Danube, Exit festival was named ‘Best Major European Festival’ at this year’s EU Festival Awards. It takes place in the city of Novi Sad, Serbia, and everyone from the White Stripes and Morrissey to the Pet Shop Boys and Massive Attack have taken to the main stage in years gone by. It also attracts fans of dance music and electronica.

SZIGET FESTIVAL, HUNGARY


Sziget Festival is one of the biggest multi-cultural events in Europe. Founded in 1993, the festival attracts almost 400,000 fans to its beautiful island setting in the Hungarian capital, Budapest. 4 MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL


This festival came to life in 1967, when Jazz enthusiast Claude Nobs held the first festival on Lake Geneva’s shoreline, in Switzerland. 5 SONAR FESTIVAL, BARCELONA


Sónar is a mash-up of music, film and video all rolled into one big multimedia festival. There’s installation art, audiovisual concerts and medialab presentations alongside DJ sets, electronic music, film and more. It was founded in Barcelona in 1994 and prides itself on its playful nature, avant- garde, performers and experimentation with electronic dance music’s newest trends. WACKEN FESTIVAL, GERMANY


Wacken Open Air, known as W:O:A, is a popular heavy metal music festival. It takes place annually in the small village of Wacken in northern Germany and draws all kinds of metal fans, from those who love black and death metal, to enthusiasts of thrash and gothic metal. The 2015 lineup includes Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Running Wild, In Flames, In Extremo, U.D.O. and many more.
