pays to have your pharmacist run the card every time you use it to make sure you’re getting the best possible price.

Beason herself used the card to purchase medicine for her aging father and saved 50 percent. “His medicine normally cost $44 but with the Co-op Connections card, it only cost $22,” she said. A new search feature allows card users to compare prescription costs at pharmacies within a radius of 10, 25, 50 and up. “We could have bought it at Kroger’s in Paris for $13, but we didn’t want to drive that far,” she noted.

Beason reminds members that discounts can vary depending on the prescription. “Sometimes you might not find a discount on your particular prescription, but other times you will,” she said.”But if there’s chance of saving 50 percent, it certainly pays to check it out.”

While the pharmacy benefit is by far the most popular among CEC members, Co-op Connections provides a number of other benefits, too. Members can save on eye exams, eyeglasses, dental care, hearing checks, hearing aids, and even MRI scans at participating medical centers. The card can also be used at thousands 0f participating businesses nationwide, and at local businesses, too. For example, Shotgun Shells and Pigtails in Antlers offers a free haircut to cardholders, At Beaver’s Bend Wildlife Museum, the card will save you a dollar off the regular admission price.

For coupon clippers, the redesigned Co-op connections website offers pages of discount coupons on brand name foods, household products, automotive items and more. For online shoppers, the page offers promo codes for discounts at Macy’s, Home Depot, Best Buy and more. And there’s even a grocery app that allows shoppers to compare grocery prices for the best deals on products at over 160 supermarket chains and 30,000 stores.

While Beason said the coupon deals are fantastic, she is even more excited the latest benefit, Cash Back Mall. “It pays you to shop,” she said, explaining that

members who sign up can earn cash back on purchases at more than 4,000 online merchants including Bass Pro, Target, Wal Mart and Bed, Bath and Beyond. You can choose to have your cash benefits deposited directly into your bank account or receive a check in the mail. “It costs nothing to participate and it pays you tax-free income for shopping at the stores you usually shop at,” she added. Downloading the free Shopping Assistant for your browser makes Cash Back Mall even easier because you can shop from search engines like Yahoo and Google without needing to log in.

While the prescription savings clearly show that CEC members are using their card, Beason wants to hear from members themselves. “We’d love to hear from members who are using their card because we know they’re out there,” she said. “Their comments, positive or negative, will help us improve the program.” ■
