Remember! The genomic evaluations tell us the predicted transmitting ability of an animal. In the UK (PLI) and Germany (RZG) (and other European countries) the genomic index of a calf is calculated by using the actual animal’s genotype – like America and Canada – plus the four generations of sire information. Therefore the main difference is that there is no input of the female family and female parent data into our genomic index, which has been shown to improve the accuracy and avoid over- estimation of the calf’s genomic index. Interesting fact: The top GPLI heifer in the Genetic Elite Sale 2014 made the


top price of the day. The two other highest prices were also from animals that had been tested and had GPLIs that were in the top 10% of the UK population.


Be aware that: Your calf’s genomic index will change in one way or another. Why? Because information is added to the index, whether that may come from sire, grandsire or – if looking at the GTPI or GLPI – the maternal side of the family. These changes occur three times a year during the ‘proof runs’ in April, August and December.
