How many cows do you have in the herd? There is 550 head in total and we milk about 90 cows.


The average milk production is 10,366kgs at 4.2% fat and 3.5% protein (with 65% of the herd being 1st


What is your average milk yield? calvers).


For readers that may not be familiar with Blondin, can you give them a bit of background about the herd? How many years has it been in operation?


Simon: I am the seventh generation on the farm and when I was young, the herd was just grades. When I was a teenager, my friends were interested in cows and pedigrees and that’s what helped me to develop my passion. My father bought me a Warden heifer (Diamond Hill Warden Lass) as a present in the Holstein Canada centennial sale in 1984. This heifer is actually the master piece of the herd as she is the second dam of one of our most well-known, home bred cows, Blondin Skychief Supra EX-93 3E 25*, who was Canada’s Cow of the Year in 2009.


Is it a family run farm? Simon: Yes and I am the seventh generation of my family on the farm and Olivier will be the eighth generation.
