The fi rst prize fresh cow from Oakworth’s Eric Wellock made £1,750 on joining Robert Metcalfe in Brearton, though it was the second prize cow from John Rennard, of Beamsley, that headed the class prices at £1,900 when falling to Stephen Breare, of Silsden Moor. Easingwold’s Mick Corner again sold in-calf heifers to a high of £1,450, this acquired by Gargrave’s David Shuttleworth, while a show class for maiden heifers saw the red rosette awarded to R & E Pollard, of Colne, their entries selling to a high of £880. However, it was the third prize maiden heifer from J R Taylor & Son, of Winterburn, that topped the class prices at £980 when joining Duncan Holme in Storiths.


Moorshard to 2,450gns at SAC


Averages: Calved cows & heifers £1,828.16; Bulls £1,012.20; Yearlings £840; Heifer calves £426 Auctioneers: GREENSLADE TAYLOR HUNT Greenslade Taylor Hunts annual Mid-Summer Collective Sale was this year held as part of the Sedgemoor Auction Centre weekly dairy market and followed 100 milking cows and heifers through the ring. The day’s top price of 2,450gns was for a calved heifer from one of the West Country’s leading herds, Moorshard Double Agent Fawn, a freshly calved heifer that had the PI EX95 Quietcove Valiant Fawn in her pedigree. At 2,200gns was Dimond Farming Ltd’s calved heifer Dorset Twister Fable 2 from three generations of VG and an exceptionally milky family, the Belle Fable 22 from Dorset, sold for 2,050gns. L W R & K A Hill continued to disperse their milking herd as they calve with the calved heifer Sampfordel Lucius Tina selling at 2,080gns. Five of the seven bulls forward sold to a top of 1,420gns for John Young Farms Ltd Lanover Ample by Million, he was out of the renowned Ashlyn family. Yearling heifers from Maundrils Farm Partnership’s organic herd sold to 900gns for daughters of O-Man End-Story from their Wallen and Molly families.


A well grown yearling heifer from M P & P M Perrett by Welcome Altaporter sold for 810gns.


It was very busy day for the dairy section with purchasers from across the West and Wales.

Dauntsey Milkers to 1,800gns


Averages: 165 milking cows and heifers £1,015.13; 26 three quartered and empty cows £596.88 Auctioneers: GWILYM RICHARDS & CO Auctioneers Gwilym Richards & Co report a level trade at the dispersal of the Dauntseyvale herd of pedigree Holstein Friesians at Dauntsey, near Chippenham, Wiltshire, for Arne and Marion Hass. Top price was 1,800gns for a Netherside Dynamo sired second calver which had calved in February having given 7,233kgs as a heifer. The buyers were Trinity Farms Ltd of Seagry. The sale comprised chiefl y of Dutch cattle which had been imported as heifers and the second highest price was for one of these. The March calved third calver Marie 228 sold for 1,720gns. She was giving 39kgs daily when sold having recorded 9,153kgs with her second calf. Buyers from Carmarthenshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire were in attendance but most cattle stayed in the home county of Wiltshire and the adjoining county of Gloucestershire.


Straw Yard Cows to 2000gns at SAC


Averages: Cows and heifers £1,307; In-calf/served heifers £1,463.25; Bulling heifers £1,134; Heifer calves £413.70 Auctioneers: GREENSLADE TAYLOR HUNT Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt, witnessed the best cows selling for a premium at Karova Farms dispersal sale held at Sedgemoor Auction Centre.


Removing the straw yard cows from Sussex to the West Country was rewarded with cows topping at 2,000gns for a September calved Magor Bolivia Allen daughter that was due again in August. A 51kgs second calver by Pine-Shelter Logan Iron sold to 1,900gns, as did a heifer due to her second in June by Schillview Garrett.


In-calf heifers were in strong demand selling to 1,540gns


for a R-E-W Seaver daughter due August to Coldsprings Ponder. Others sold twice to 1,520gns x 2. Bulling heifers reached 1,100gns for daughters of Schillview Garrett and Galastar Bluesky. Heifer calves reached 600gns for granddaughters of Picston Shottle.


Buyers from Devon, Sussex and Shropshire generated 28 successful purchasers on the day .
