TTG Talk

I AGREE with Emma Sanger that cruise lines should “come down hard” on the less scrupulous in the trade (TTG Analysis, TTGJuly 10). None of us want to see another

Cruise Control or Gills Travel scenario happen again, and those were both due to heavy discounting. I used to lose large numbers of

potential clients to them both. They should have been made to use the earnings to invest in their company or marketing. We should all be allowed to make

a comfortable living from being in travel, which is a hard enough industry at the best of times. It needs the cruise lines and agents to work together.

COMMENTS OF THE WEEK

Cruise lines need to punish discounters

Until everybody agrees to this, it won’t happen. We also spend a lot of time and

effort getting quotes for potential clients with no renumeration. If someone goes into a solicitors, for example, they have to pay a cost to see the solicitor. One of these days it would be

great if every agent charged £15 to £25 for a quote, which would be given back to the client when they booked. Alison Woodrow Addison Cruises

Why travelling is actually an education itself

AN EXPERIENCE in Australia is educational! (“Parents handed criminal records for taking children on term-time holiday”, ttgdigital.com). However, if the children were in

the middle of GCSEs, for example, that would be the wrong time to do it. If prices weren’t so elevated

during school holidays, parents wouldn’t feel the need to do this. I’d probably pay the fine if it works

out cheaper than the saving I make by travelling off-peak. Heather Cannon
