‘Get ready’ for Clia cruise week

CELEBRITY CRUISES has launched a summer holiday agent promotion, offering the trade the chance to earn cruise holidays of their own. The “Sell and Sail” promotion will

enable any agent who makes five Celebrity Eclipse bookings to earn a future cruise certificate for the line worth £1,000. Agents who make 10 bookings

will be given £2,000 worth of Celebrity Cruises holidays, with £5,000 up for grabs for those who make 25 bookings. The incentive applies to all

Celebrity Eclipse 2014 sailings between August 16 and November 8 – the end of the ship’s Southampton- based season. Agents can also count bookings

made in June and July. The cruise certificates apply to any 2015 and 2016 Celebrity Cruises holidays, excluding Christmas, New Year and Easter departures and Celebrity Xpedition cruises. Director of sales Nicki Tempest- Mitchell said the move was a “special thank-you” to the line’s agent partners. “Their hard work this summer will

deliver a great holiday experience for next year. We’ve seen massive excitement from agents in celebration of this offer and we look forward to welcoming the top sellers across our fleet for their own cruise experience in the near future.” To be eligible for the Sell and

Sail offer, agents can book selected Celebrity Eclipse 2014 Southampton departures. The booking must be confirmed by July 31, 2014 in order to be eligible.

CLIA UK and Ireland is urging the trade to “get ready” for Clia cruise week, which is set to take place between September 27 and October 5. The theme of the week is

“destination” – Clia hopes agents will use this to create bespoke events to woo new-to-cruise customers. Clia UK and Ireland director Andy

Harmer said: “We’ll be encouraging Clia members to hold an event that is destination-themed, whether that’s a Cruise Baltic afternoon, a Caribbean evening or an Alaskan afternoon. “Research shows time and again

that destination is the key driver for customers booking a cruise holiday, so it seemed like the logical thing to focus on this year because it highlights the range of choice that is out there.” “The memory of waking up to

somewhere different each morning is a powerful message.” Clia will send out the first of its

cruise packs to its agent members this week. These will be followed up with more packs sent closer to the date. As part of the destination theme, Harmer said Clia’s destination

specialist, based in Sydney, would also be conducting a series of webinars for agents, looking at the top 10 destinations and the top 10 places to view from a cruise ship. Training modules on the Clia website will also be refreshed and “made relevant for this year”, Harmer added. The cruise association will be

urging everyone to help push Clia cruise week by creating a buzz on social media, with the trade encouraged to post pictures of their favourite cruise destination, alongside the hashtag #lovecruise. Harmer said others in the industry would also be getting involved. “We will be working with many

ports, destinations and cruise lines and asking them to upload their view of the cruise port and destination they are based in with the hashtag, so customers and agents can have a snapshot of what’s on offer. “We’ll then collate these and put

them on our Facebook page – it will be a great showcase for agents talking to customers about cruise.” Clia cruise week will no longer

be confined to the UK but will be a pan-European event. IN BRIEF

■SINGLE SUPPLEMENT WAIVED European Waterways has waived its single supplement for this summer on four August cruises in the Canal du Midi and Burgundy regions of France. The line said a “no single supplement” rule would apply on six-night sailings on August 10 and 17 on the Canal du Midi, and on August 17 and 24 on voyages to Burgundy.

■NEW TOURS WITH CRYSTAL Crystal Cruises is offering new tours during its November 5 East Coast sailing in the US. Excursions include a tour of the 9/11 memorial, guided by a survivor, rescue worker or other veteran of the 2001 attacks.

■THOMSON WINTER EXCURSIONS Thomson Cruises has launched its 2014-15 winter shore excursions, with new ports of call on the Thomson Dream. The ship will sail from its new homeport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and call at destinations such as Belize, Pointe-a-Pitre in Guadeloupe and Puerto Limon in Costa Rica.
