Matt Striebel is one of two players that has played in every MLL season since the league’s 2001 inception. His career has spanned 143 regular season games, eight all-star games and three championships. He also played for Team USA in 2002, 2006 and 2010.

Striebel has achieved so much and played for so long, but he has always felt he had something to prove. “What I have to prove now as a 35-year-old lacrosse player is that I can hang with these young players,” he said. “The minute I decide I’m a good lacrosse player is the minute I walk off the fi eld and say it’s all behind me.” Prior to his MLL career, Striebel played attack for three years at Princeton. Then in his senior year, he was moved to midfi eld to accommodate a hotshot freshman named Ryan Boyle. The Tigers won the NCAA championship that year, then Striebel and Boyle reunited to win three MLL titles with the Philadelphia Barrage. They remain best friends today.

Striebel, with 207 career goals and 104 assists at press time, has evolved from a dodger into a long-range shooter, with 20 2-point goals from 2011 to 2013. Striebel has adapted, survived and thrived. “I’ve always worked hardest when I’m not playing, so the months I am playing, I’m playing my best,” he said. — P.S.
