NEWS New PCR events announced System Builders Workshop to debut on September 24th  Boot Camp to head to North of UK on November 12th

A FRESH training and education event aimed specifically at system builders – the sector of retail specialising in putting together custom PCs – will launch in Northampton in September. PCR System Builders Workshop will allow tech firms to showcase new products and systems in a more hands on training environment – but also to educate, train, explain platforms, software architecture, techniques and performance upgrades. It will give system builders a chance to ask questions and get some hands-on training with new technology – and is completely free for them to attend.

Attendees will come away from System Builders Workshop learning something practical about their trade – either the benefits of a new product range hitting the market, or insider tips on the more technical aspects of the latest hardware. System Builders Workshop will take place on September 24th at Whittlebury Hall, Northamptonshire.

PCR BOOT Camp North – an expansion of the annual

conference/expo held in London – will make its debut at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on November 12th.

PCR Boot Camp has gone from strength to strength and, after a hugely successful May 2014 event at The Brewery in London, is expanding to specifically cater for retailers in the Midlands, Scotland, Wales and the North.

The set-up of the day will mirror the London event, including an informative morning conference, with panel sessions and expert

briefings, and an afternoon expo, which will give exhibitors the chance to engage with retailers, vendors and distributors and show off their new and best-selling product lines.

It’s completely free for retailers, resellers and system builders to attend.

Sponsorship packages are available now – to find out about becoming an exhibitor, contact Jennie.Lane@intentmedia. co.uk.

KD UK hints at kids’ wearable tech market debut in 2015

‘We will come to the market with the right product,’ says vendor on rival firms’ entrance into prospective sector by Matthew Jarvis

KID’S TECH specialist KD UK is planning to launch a wearable device for children in 2015, PCR can reveal.

Asked about the entrance of rival firms LeapFrog (pictured) and VTech into the prospective wearable tech market, Paul Joyner, head of technology sales at KD UK, told PCR: “We’re not launching anything in 2014, but watch this space for 2015.”

“We will make sure that if we do come to market, we will have the right product with the right requirements that children – as well as adults – are looking for,” he stated. Joyner added that the firm was also in talks to bring its

safety-focused devices to educational environments, saying: “There’s no reason why Kurio cannot be part of an educational platform as we move forward.”

He also teased at the company’s collaboration with UK mobile operators surrounding the launch of the first KD UK smartphone for children.

“We’ll reveal more in time. Watch this space,” he said. “We’re in discussion with a number of key airtime providers who love the product.”

The firm is also making waves in the traditional technology market – Joyner argued that retailers who dismiss kids’ tech as a novelty

could miss out on a huge opportunity. “We are expanding in the market and seeing consumer electronics retailers take advantage of the increased business and new opportunity of appealing to a younger market,” he said. “At the moment, they’re giving that opportunity away to the toy market, but they’re becoming aware of how much volume has been achieved by the toy departments with tablets. “So it’s now in their interest to tap into that and take some of that share.”
