In your experience, how has higher education evolved over the years?


We believe that higher education has evolved quickly and consistently over the past few years – none more so than in terms of technology. The development of 3D printers has been recognised and is beginning to be embraced in education. It’s one of the reasons why we have 3D printers at Printerbase: the technology off ers students an opportunity to see various topics in a new, exciting way. From simple inspiration through to research and development, a variety of skills can be honed to prepare for future careers.


How do you compare to your peers in the market?


We believe that innovation is the key to success – we simply refuse to stand still at Printerbase. If there are new developments within the industry, we strive to be at the forefront at the earliest stage. We see ourselves as specialists, both in printers and the solutions needed to get the very best out of them. This dedication has seen us build solid


relationships and become platinum partners with major manufacturers, as well as being added to NEPA and SAPC frameworks.


Tell us more about your partnership with Samsung at BETT


We are Samsung’s chosen partner in print for education in the UK. This allows us to work closely with them, providing opportunities to improve through their innovative print technology on the education frameworks. BETT was a huge part of this continued


partnership and something that we really enjoyed. We demonstrated the latest solutions and developments that will enable institutions to save money, increase effi ciency and reduce environmental impact – all without compromising on specifi c print needs.


Who else do you work with in the sector?

We also with Brother, Epson, Kyocera, OKI and Xerox in the education sector. Each of the manufacturers have their own strengths and, as we’re in this privileged position, we truly believe that this helps us when looking to tailor a print solution for an institution’s needs.


What have been the key growth areas in the industry?


For us, there was a real growth in A4 Multifunction Printers [MFP], with colour devices up 26% and mono rising by 23%. MFPs have become increasingly popular over the past few years, as users lean towards a more streamlined approach for offi ce devices. However, our biggest growth areas have been in A3,


with A3 laser MFP sales up 33% and A3 inkjet sales up 30% on the previous year – quite an improvement! Overall though, we also found that customers were


turning their backs on the environmental side of printing – they are, instead, focusing on the total cost of ownership when it comes to deciding on a printer. While we always encourage customers in choosing a real cost-eff ective option, the environmental message is still something that, as a forward-thinking business, we will maintain.


What does the future hold for Printerbase? The past year has certainly been an exciting one – and we consider it a huge success as Printerbase has grown rapidly, embracing new technology, ideas and, as a result, expanding


various areas of the business with new staff . Along with 3D Printing, one area we will be


focusing on is Managed Print Services [MPS], which is sure to be a key growth area. We have developed a number of key strategic partnerships around MPS this year and we fully expect these to yield results in the New Year – helping us achieve over 30% growth. ET
