Easier Access Provided by Standard Software

Laboratory managers, scientists and technicians can now control all their instruments using the same familiar software package with a new release of Thermo Scientific Dionex Chromeleon 7.2 Chromatography Data System (CDS) Service Release 1.

The software supports liquid and ion chromatography control as well as gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. “Last year, we bridged the chromatography-mass spectrometry gap with the Chromeleon 7.2 CDS for GC-MS,” said Christoph Nickel, Global Software Marketing Director, chromatography, for Thermo Fisher. “Customer interest has been overwhelming, and this year we’re taking it to the next level by adding control of Thermo Scientific LC-MS instrumentation. With this new release, we’re responding to growing customer demand to apply high-sensitivity, information-rich MS techniques for quantitative applied analyses. Chromeleon CDS’s ease-of-use makes mass spec technology more accessible for routine operation.”

The latest version of the software adds full control for the Thermo Scientific MSQ single quadrupole system, TSQ Quantiva and Endura triple quadrupole instruments as well as the company’s benchtop Orbitrap-based high-resolution accurate mass instruments.

29566pr@reply-direct.com Universal Testers Allow Better Control and Precision

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments has introduced four universal testers that offer high-level control, tight precision and intuitive operation for a wide variety of material testing. The 20kN and 50kN table-top types and the 100kN and 300kN floor types extend Shimadzu’s Autograph AGS-X series. The new testers come standard with Shimadzu’s TRAPEZIUM X or TRAPEZIUM LITE X software to gather and display data for users in real time.

IC Range Lowers Cost of Ownership

Robust Swiss quality and lower cost of ownership are key benefits of the 940 Professsional IC Vario and the 930 Compact IC Flex instruments revealed by Metrohm. Automated Inline Eluent Preparation as provided by the 941 Eluent Production Module enables uninterrupted, maintenance-free system operation up to one month. The production of eluents reduces cost of ownership significantly, as all that is required is the dilution of the respective concentrate with ultrapure water. For convenience, an ultrapure water system can be directly connected to the 941 Eluent Production Module.

With the 940 Professional IC Vario and the 930 Compact IC Flex, users do not depend on expensive consumables such as syringe filters and SPE cartridges for sample preparation. Instead, the unique and partly patented techniques of Metrohm Inline Sample Preparation (MISP) integrate fully automated inline sample preparation (filtration, dilution, preconcentration, matrix elimination) and subsequent analysis into a fully automated system. Routine users in particular benefit from considerable savings on both time and money.

A range of accessories for the Autograph AGS-X series makes it easy to test a variety of different materials using the same machine. Eight different jigs, four styles of grips and two kinds of compression plates can accommodate vastly different specimen types and test force amounts. With a variety of extensometer attachments, the option of three different controlled environment chambers and a high-temperature tensile test device, testing in specific conditions is also made easier.

The software quickly obtains and displays testing data in real time. TRAPEZIUM X users can choose from four software components to fit their specific testing needs. The entry-level TRAPEZIUM LITE X software version is also available for users who only need to perform general single-direction testing.

Multiwave Smartly Vents Pressure

Anton Paar, a leading supplier of sample preparation instruments for more than 40 years, unveiled the Multiwave GO a routine digestion system with an extremely lightweight rotor for 12 vessels providing SMART VENT technology.

Based on a DMC Directed Multimode Cavity, a self-adjusting microwave field invented by Anton Paar, highly efficient heating is possible in an extremely small-footprint system. For efficient reaction control the internal vessel temperature of each vessel is controlled via an IR sensor.

Flexibility with Precision Weighing

In the spotlight for Adam Equipment, which marked its 15th year as an exhibitor at Pittcon, was the newest addition to its range of lab balances, the Nimbus precision and analytical balances.

This top-loading model accomplishes weighing, parts counting, percentage weighing, density calculation and animal/dynamic weighing.

The Nimbus offers a choice of pan sizes and boasts eight weighing units, along with an additional custom weighing unit. The stand also featured moisture analysers, industrial and medical scales, plus an anti-vibration table and other accessories

The newly designed DMC Directed Multimode Cavity provides monomode microwaves focused directly on the sample for efficient heating; in multimode, up to twelve samples can be digested in a single run.

SMART VENT technology, a new pressure-activated-venting concept invented by Anton Paar, allows digestion of extremely high sample amounts and the possibility to safely digest samples with different reaction behaviour in the same run.

Based on the short digestion process times provided by the TURBO heating and TURBO cooling concept, a superior sample throughput of up to 12 samples in 18 minutes is possible; cooling times as short as 8 minutes for a fully loaded twelve-position rotor are possible, the company said.

CESI-MS links CE to Mass Spec

A breakthrough technology solution introduced by AB Sciex LLC will help biopharmaceutical scientists to more accurately predict efficacy, reduce the time to market for new therapeutics and proactively detect potential issues before they lead to costly product recalls.

CESI marks a novel combination of capillary electrophoresis (CE) and electrospray ionisation (ESI) technologies to create an integrated workflow solution which includes the industry’s first commercially available ultra low-flow separation and ESI module for biologics, along with a high-performance, high-resolution, accurate mass instrument that is ideal for biopharmaceutical development. The CESI-8000 system can be integrated with the AB Sciex TripleTOF solution said to provide orthogonal and/or superior results compared to dual-method liquid chromatography / mass spectrometry-based approaches.

From a single digest and run, users of CESI-MS gain the following: (a) Identity and Purity information with 100% coverage in a peptide map; (b) Heterogeneity information with ultrasensitive glycopeptide quantitation; and (c) Stability information identifying, deamination, cyclisation and oxidation - all highly important to biopharmaceutical scientists.

The CESI 8000 system is the first CE-related product launch from AB Sciex. Expanding its portfolio of separations solutions, AB Sciex obtained the CESI technology through combining the CE business of Beckman Coulter Life Sciences with Eksigent nano and microscale chromatography to form a newly expanded separations business known as Sciex Separations.
