Groundbreaking Update T

rustees and management at Northeast Oklaho- ma Electric Cooperative recently broke ground on a new data center. The center will be built

adjacent to the company’s existing headquarters facility in Vinita and house both its computer and telephone systems. Space inside the center will be leased to cooperative subsidiary, Northeast Rural Services, to be used by BOLT Fiber Optic Services. Once the data center is built, the cooperative will also offer collocate services to outside companies who many need offsite data storage. While most data centers around the country

have a redundancy factor of N+1, the cooperative’s center will have a rating of N+2. This means the building will have two layers of backup should any of the main operating equipment fail. Should the build- ing incur a loss of power, a backup generator will immediately take over. Should the primary generator fail, a secondary generator will be ready to pick up the power load. The 5,000-square-foot facility will be monitored

24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will be rated to withstand up to an EF-5 weather event. BOLT Fiber Optic Services, the newest division

of the Northeast Rural Services subsidiary, will use the data center to securely locate equipment needed for its new services. Included will be headend equip- ment such as servers and battery backup needed for Internet, television and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) telephone services being offering to resi- dents across northeast Oklahoma. “If the subsidiary is going to provide a service, it is going to be of top quality.
