ike most of the West Coast swing, the Northern Trust Open boasts one of the best spectator courses on

the PGA Tour because you can easily follow a group, switch between nines and get close to the tees and greens with little difficulty. The best hole to watch is the

risk-reward short par-4 10th, where something crazy, bemusing or amaz- ing is bound to happen to almost every group that comes through. The tee box is also right next to the second and ninth greens, so you can watch players hit their approaches into those holes. The third tee and the 18th green are in close proximity, too. Hard to beat! Hands down the best post-

tournament place to hang out is The Bungalow in Santa Monica. It’s great for people-watching, where you’ll see all types of characters in various outfits, from beach bums to LA hipsters. Lo- cated at the Fairmont Hotel, it’s right on Ocean Avenue, so it has that chillax beachside vibe you’re looking for. As for restaurants, where do I start? West LA has exploded with loads of

incredible dining options. Abbot Kin- ney was just named the coolest street in America by GQ, partly because it has some of the city’s best restaurants, such as the world-renowned Tasting Kitchen, Joe’s and Gjelina, which is a great take-out/walk-up spot. If you’re staying in Santa Monica, the dining deck at Santa Monica Place has something for everyone, and you have the option of strolling down to the Santa Monica Pier. You’re bound to see plenty of Tour players, as they gen- erally stay at the hotels in this area (if they’re smart). Don’t stay east of Riviera unless you enjoy sitting in traffic!

WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship

I

’ve actually never attended this event, played at the Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz.,

because, well, covering seven tourna- ments in a row is already a long time on the road. Traditionally, I’ve gone home for a quick one-week respite before heading down to the Florida Swing. The match play is a better event to watch on TV since there are so many matches happening at once the first few days, anyway. Plus, it snows in Tucson—at least it did in 2013!
