“Scratch and See” demonstrates success

Camcoat Performance Coatings reports that it enjoyed “a very successful show” for both its ceramic coating and ceramic anodising (DiamonDyze) services and received “several exciting business leads”. The exhibits that attracted the most

interest were the “Scratch and See” samples. Visitors were invited to try to scratch ceramic anodised tubular samples, treated with DiamonDyze, using sandpaper. No-one was able to make a scratch, which generated huge interest in the process which can be applied to almost any grade of aluminium. DiamonDyze properties include wear resistance, almost zero dimensional growth, over 8500 hours salt spray test. The coating (illustrated) is availability in any anodising dye colour which adds another dimension over hard anodising. Even the cost is equivalent, says the company. Samples can be requested from the company website. Also on the booth were two examples of the company’s ceramic coatings on a pair of V8 exhaust manifolds. One was coated to its 1000˚C Racespec coating, using black

trfastenings

It’s only been open a few hours but @Industry_co_uk has attracted well known & lesser known industry names.

No shortage of interest in industry

During the two days exhibiting at the Northern Manufacturing and Electronics Exhibition, STEGTA (Salford and Trafford Engineering Group Training Association) had the opportunity to discuss the skills shortage which is currently facing the engineering manufacturing industry.

The Association attends to the training needs of hundreds of companies throughout the UK. It offers a free apprenticeship recruitment service where it will advertise a vacancy on The National Apprenticeship website and shortlist candidates for a company, in a variety of industry sectors.

STEGTA’s Ian Parker was impressed, commenting: “[We] found the event to be very well organised and the logistical staff very supportive. The exhibition was rewarding and, prior to leaving the event, we secured our stand for 2014!”

Infra-red camera PC supports self- monitoring in hot zone areas

ceramic materials on both inside and outside surfaces for thermal insulation. The other manifold was coated in the company’s Cermakrome thermal barrier cermet material which has a highly polished chromeplate look and does not blue with exhaust heat. It has been used for many years on turbocharged Le Mans cars and a variety of race/rally machinery. Managing director, Peter Carter says “We will be back next year with a bigger stand”.

A miniature PC, the PI NetBox, for the PI series of infrared cameras allows the camera to be used in hot zones (fi tted with a cooling jacket), installed locally to the process (PI) camera and the processing monitoring system (PC). The camera is connected to the NetBox via a 20m long, temperature- resistant USB cable. The PC is located outside the hot zone, says Optris, and acts as a connector for an Ethernet cable that can be up to 100m in length. Frame rates up to 120Hz are supported and the PC is available with an optional IP65 enclosure, suitable for monitoring automated processes. Users can integrate their own software to optimise processing monitoring. The system is based on a COM-Express mini embedded board with Intel Atom Z530 processor, 2Gbyte SSD and 512Mbyte RAM. Three USB 2.0 ports, one Mini USB in slave mode, VGA/vido, Gigabit Ethernet, micro SD card (up to 32Gbyte) are provided. The PC supports voltages between 8 and 48V DC and is supplied with Windows XP Professional. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is also possible. The company believes that it is the only one to offer infrared cameras with USB connection. The USB server industry Isochron (pictured) bridges distances longer than 20m between the PC and the thermal imaging camera. The USB to Ethernet adapter is a joint development with Wiesemann & Theis. It has been designed specifi cally for the company’s PI 160, PI 400 and PI 450 infrared camers. It can transmit up to 100Mbit/s and features remote confi guration, using web-based software.
