and online media. The Texas Health Journalist of the Year Award was added last year to honor a journalist with a body of outstanding health reporting. This is the first time members of the TMA family (physicians, medical students, TMA Alliance members, and county medical societies) can nominate journalists for the Anson Jones awards. Nominating one or two stories is a great way to give local journalists a pat on the back for a job well done and to encour- age continued health news coverage. You have until Jan. 3, 2014, to nomi- nate any news story that aired in 2013. TMA will alert the journalist to your nomination and enter him or her into the competition. Journalists also can nominate themselves for the Anson Jones awards. Nominating your local journalists is

easy:

1. Email your nomination to anson jones@texmed.org. All we need is the reporter’s name, name of article (if available), date of broadcast/pub- lication, and the media outlet. Please try to include a URL.

2. TMA will send the reporter a postcard with a handwritten note. We’ll let the reporter know you nominated him or her and for which story or broadcast.

Physician journalists are recognized,

too. Nominate a colleague who writes a medical column for a local newspa- per or a health care blog, hosts a radio health show, or does a weekly medical segment on TV. If you report health care news, nominate yourself for the Physi- cian Excellence in Reporting award! Visit www.texmed.org/Anson_Jones.aspx for complete nomination details and contest rules and categories.

If you have questions, call Tammy

Wishard, TMA outreach coordinator, at (800) 880-1300, ext. 1470, or (512) 370-1470, or email her at ansonjones@ texmed.org. n
