2013 SWRE Meeting Held in Altus

Several hundred SWRE members and guests attended the co-op’s 2013 Annual Meeting held on Thurs- day, August 8 in Altus. The Double Take Cloggers of Altus, an award-winning girls dance group, provided great entertainment. Board President Dan White discussed the co-op qualities that make SWRE different from traditional profit-driven utility companies. Chris Meyers, general manager of the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives (OAEC), told SWRE

members about proposed regulatory laws that would challenge use of coal and result in higher electricity rates. He encouraged co-op members to be politically aware.

SWRE CEO Mike Hagy discussed the co-op’s strides in GPS mapping and installation of integrated meters. He explained how these improve- ments will benefit co-op members. Elizabeth Good, a senior at Tipton High School, shared her experiences as 2013 Youth Tour winner and thanked SWRE members for provid-

ing her with the experience of visiting Washington, D.C. Texas winner Katie Oswalt could not attend but sent a message of appreciation.

Co-op attorney Loyd Benson led a brief business meeting. High point of the Annual Meeting, as always, was a prize drawing; 109 prizes were given away, including energy certificates, business gift cards, and numerous items that were donated by SWRE’s vendor compa- nies.
