While the hardware com-

ing back through U.S. customs wasn’t particularly bountiful, the results of the 2013 Granada (Spain) World Cup for the USA Shooting Team still showcased a team of strength and potential. The fi nal International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup of the year featured over 1,028 athletes from 78 coun- tries and Team USA walked away two medals, eight fi nalists and 18 top-15 performances. Medals earned among the

48 team members, both bronze, included two-time shotgun Olympian Corey Cogdell (Eagle River, Alaska) and fi ve-time pis- tol Olympian Emil Milev (Temple Terrace, Fla.). Cogdell tied the

World Record mark of 75 in qual- ifying and was leading by three targets before falling slightly in the new zero-start fi nals format. Cogdell’s shotgun teammates Jeff Holguin (double trap/Yorba Linda, Calif.), Ashley Carroll (trap/ Solvang, Calif.) and Jake Wallace (trap/Castiac, Calif.) fi nished just outside the medal hunt with fourth, fi fth and sixth-place fi n- ishes, respectively. Milev has racked up 15 med- als over his career with that 15th

medal coming from his third- place fi nish in Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol . “I’m happy with the result

and with my performance,” Milev said. “I set a goal for this compe- tition to medal and was able to reach it. There were some rough

fi rst place with a two-day quali- fi cation score of 585. With the new ISSF fi nals format in place however (which excludes prelimi- nary scores), all of the six quali- fying shooters would enter fi nals on equal footing. At the end of their second competition stage in the fi nals, Milev was tied for second place with Christian Reitz of Germany with 23 hits. On the seventh elimination series, Reitz bested Milev 4-3 to move on.

Connor Davis placed eighth in his World Cup fi nal debut in 10m Air Rifl e.
