Bedford Lodge Hotel, UK

“My motto throughout the pre-opening of the spa has been ‘keep it simple’ and this is what we’ve aimed to do with all our spa literature”

Anna Ramsay

Spa manager, The Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel

seats on the ground floor, as well as a thermal area with an ice bucket shower, tropical shower and a rasul. There are also ten treatment rooms and a decadent, dark, deep relaxation room. The mezzanine level boasts another relaxation area and on the rooftop is a cascading spa pool and a terrace that provides views across the hotel grounds. Both pools and the spa’s thermal suite were designed, supplied and installed by Cheshire Wellness. The spa’s finishing touches include self-heating

treatment beds that are wider and longer than a standard bed. Ramsay also sourced practical brown linen, supplied by Lissadell, while the spa’s comfortable rubber slippers, supplied by YeahBaby and provided in a range of sizes, can be cleaned in-house and reused to reduce wastage.

explains, careful consideration was also given to the new spa’s interiors. “We had to meet our client’s desire for environments that were both aspirational and welcoming, but the most important aspect of delivering this spa was that the experience should be as good as the aesthetics,” he explains. “The interiors needed to be sympathetic to the

restoration of the old building and yet be a distinctive and modern product to complement the hotel’s existing high-quality services. Our final designs have created an approachable and comfortable, yet luxurious experience for guests to enjoy.” Ramsay believes the spa fluidly combines aesthetics with practicality. “All of the fabrics in the spa have

Susan Harmsworth MBE Chief executive, ESPA

“We are delighted to be working with Bedford Lodge on its wonderful new spa. Anna Ramsay worked with ESPA for over five years so it has been a pleasure putting together the signature treatments and spa menu with her, and advising on the treatment room design and equipment. We have also worked before

with Noel Byrne; it’s great to work with a team with whom we have the shared goal of producing exceptional treatment and training standards as well as a seamless guest experience.”
