TRI-COUNTY ELECTRIC CEO JACK PERKINS, LEFT, PRESENTS METER TECHNICIAN RUBEN SANCHEZ WITH THE TOUCHSTONE ENERGY POWER AND HOPE AWARD FOR HIS EFFORTS ASSISTING A MEMBER.

Sanchez receives award BY JULIANN GRAHAM, Communications Coordinator

On the morning of February 28, Ms. Voyles stepped on a snow bank as she left the house to go to work. She slipped and fell forward, injuring her arms and knees. She lay outside in the snow and frigid air in her yard, which sits on U.S. Highway 412 just outside city limits of Hardesty. Cars whizzed by for nearly 40 minutes before Sanchez stopped to help.

“Ruben (Sanchez) stopped and called the ambulance,” Ms. Voyles said. “He stayed right with me until the Hooker ambulance arrived. He covered me with blankets from my home to keep me warm and encouraged me not to move. It was just really appreciated.”

Ms. Voyles later discovered she had broken her right arm in three places and dislocated her left shoulder. She also hurt her knees, which she said were bad to start with. She was unable to return to work for more than two months after the fall.

Sanchez, who has worked for Tri-County Electric six years, said his safety training helped him respond appropriately to the situation.

“From our first aid training, I knew it would be better not to move her,” Sanchez said. “When I drove by I noticed stuff laying all around her. I thought I better check up on her and make sure she was okay. I called the ambulance then I asked if she had some pillows and blankets to try to keep her warm.”

The cooperative commended Sanchez’s actions by presenting him with a Touchstone Energy Cooperative Power and Hope award at its employee meeting on June 12. The prestigious Power and Hope Award honors cooperative employees who go the extra mile to assist someone in need. n

ri-County Electric Cooperative member Jean Voyles can’t say enough kind words of appreciation for the help she received from Ruben Sanchez, one of the cooperative’s meter technicians.
