F We're in this together Last year Oklahoma Electric Cooperative celebrated 75

years of bringing power to the people. I really liked seeing all the old pictures and archived newsletter stories from our early years reprinted in the OEC News. We've come a long way from the days when the name of every OEC member could fi t on a half- page of the newsletter. In fact, we see 310 new members every month—NEW. T at's 310 people who have never been co-op members before, who may not know what a co-op is, how we do business diff erent from other utilities, or why they should care. T e bottom line is OEC exists to meet community needs.

T e co-op way of doing business is the perfect tool for getting things done too big for just one person to handle, but we need a common purpose. When you signed up for OEC service, you became a member, not a customer. We're in this together—to make life better where we live, for ourselves and for our kids. One of our most pressing challenges for the future is

adequate and aff ordable power generation. In 2012, OEC revised the time-of-use rate structure started in 2011 to refl ect a price closer to the actual cost of producing power, but it also gives you the ability lower your energy bill through conservation and effi ciency. T is year, we began a geothermal validation study to chart what I believe will prove to be a giant step in reducing energy costs and promoting a renewable energy source. In fact, I’m putting money on it by installing a geothermal system at my home right now. Like I said, we're in this together. I am proud to work alongside eight other trustees and the

staff at OEC to represent the common needs of our members. I look forward to seeing you and your family at our annual meeting Fri., Aug. 9. We on the board want to hear what is important to you and how we can help. Come on over, say hi, and tell us what's on your mind.
