Outlook The market for wood flooring in 2012-13 has remained difficult, with sources indicting that trading has been both volatile and fragile throughout the year. The recovery of the housing market – both in terms of new build and housemoving

- remains key to the revival of the market, though neither have seen any sustained recovery in 2012 and H1 2013.

The contract sector is likely to recover at a slower rate than the domestic market. Traditionally, the contract floorcoverings market has been considerably less

volatile than the domestic sector, but future growth for contract woods is largely dependent on recovery in key commercial sectors.

Decline in laminate volumes is likely to continue. However, the trend in the market in recent years towards more middle and upper ranges should help

to partly offset the impact on value decline. Prospects for solid and engineered woods appear to be more positive than for laminates, with some growth currently forecast to 2016 as consumer confidence slowly recovers, though overall market performance is unlikely to be buoyant over the 2013-14 period.
