Lite Ltd shine a new light on the restoration of the world’s oldest operating sea life Aqueria.

Brighton’s Sea Life Centre, has become part of an extensive renovation programme by Lite Ltd. As Europe’s largest walk-through underwater fish observation tunnel with over 100 free swimming fish species, Lite Ltd have created a visual masterpiece to dramatically enhance the visitor experience. “Our multi coloured LED lighting scheme, which dramatically reduced electricity power and maintenance cost, fulfilled Max Levison, Sea Life Centre Managers requirement ‘to merge the beauty and history of this Grade II listed Victorian structure with modern technology to bring it up to date without losing any of its architectural heritage’” explained Lite’s Sales Director Andrew Milestone. Interior walls were stripped and sand blasted back to their original white carved stonework, revealing the fine details. Only the use of vibrant colour provided by LED lighting could enhance the dominant and stunning multi arched architectural features and do it justice.

Phillips Colorblast Powercore wide flood luminaires were used in conjunction with a iPlayer lighting controller and wireless transmitter and receivers located at either end of the arcade. This solved the problem of both distance and wiring routes for the transfer of data. The Powercore technology

means power and data travels together down a standard 4 core cable, with no need for remote drivers thereby making a very neat install and easy to add to in the future. Each fixture uses only 50 watts of power at full output. Constructed by the Victorian Pier designer Eugenius Birch in 1872, Lite Ltd’s spectacular colour change LED lighting installation on the 140th anniversary of the sea life centre, has enabled the building to remain sensitive to it’s beauty and history as a Grade II listed building whilst giving it a complete new lease of life and enhancing visitors experience.
