Whether it’s poor preparation, missing manners or inadequate attire, there are times when something you’ve done has failed to swing the interview in your favour. But what? Until you answer this question, you’re in danger of making the same mistakes again. But whom can you ask and how should you go about it?


Self assessment


There are some basic questions you can consider before you ask anyone else how you did. For example, you might already know what it was you did wrong. In which case, the solution is obvious! However, there are other questions that you could ask yourself; a key one being “Am I interviewing for the right jobs?” This might seem nonsensical, but just because you’ve been selected for an interview doesn’t mean you’re the right person for the job, or that the job is right for you.


Replay the day in your mind and ask yourself whether you got the basics right. Were you polite to everyone in the building? Were you as confident under pressure as you could have been? What about the answers you gave during the interview itself; were they delivered succinctly yet thoroughly? The next thing to consider is just how


prepared you really were. This doesn’t just include knowing the way to the venue, getting there on time and wearing the right attire. You should also have visited one of the company’s outlets as well as their website (their careers website too, should they have one), so you
