Be honest
Don’t say things you think the recruitment consultant wants to hear.
Always be
extremely honest and frank about what you are looking for in terms of your next move e.g. salary, location, role and company.
Know what you’re looking for
If you go in with a good idea of what kind of job you want, you are more likely to get it. Have a good think about exactly what it is that you’re after in terms of job role, salary, location, sector etc. and let your consultant know your requirements.
Be open-minded Your
Do not restrict your job search too much.
consultant may put forward roles you may not have considered before that could be great for you. Go in with an open mind, listen and take on board the recruiter’s suggestions and advice.
Don’t be afraid to say no!
If you aren’t interested in a role or have concerns, you have to let them know. It will save everyone a lot of time and effort in the long run.

Keep in touch with them
Never stand them up
Failing to turn up to an interview or assessment centre will damage the relationship that the client has with the consultancy and will paint you in a very poor light. What's more, your unreliability will be attached to your digital record with both firms. So barring genuine emergencies or disasters make sure you turn up to any meetings arranged by your consultant.
Don’t pay to get placed
Communication goes both ways, so don’t wait for them to call you. It is just as much your job to stay in-touch with your consultant as much as it is theirs.
This doesn’t happen often, but there are some companies out there that may try to scam you. Don’t ever pay to get on the books of an agency – they are paid by the companies for which they recruit.
Listen to their advice!
Consultants want you to be right for the jobs they're working on for clients - they get paid for placements. As such if they offer you advice about how to improve your chances of landing a job – listen to them! If they tell you to visit some stores before the interview, visit some stores. If they suggest you learn as much as you can about the client's competitors, do it!
