65 | COGENT PROOFS 2013 “This equates to £31,600 STABILISER ™

per 100 cows, annually” Richard Fuller - Technical Director Stabiliser Cattle Company

Background Formed in 1996, the Beef Improvement Group imported the flrst Stabiliser™ embryos from the Leachman Cattle Company, Montana in 1998. Since the arrival of the breed in the UK, it has gone from strength to strength and today the national breeding herd consists of 8000 performance recorded breeding females. The core focus of the breeding program is to improve the economic efflciency of suckler cows, as well as the production of consistently high eating quality beef for least cost, from forage based systems.

What is the Stabiliser™

The Stabiliser™ is a composite breed that has been developed by Leachmen Cattle of Colorado in the US. Consisting of 5/8 British breeds (Red Angus) and 3/8 Continental breeds (Gelbvieh and Simmental), they are generally red in colour, although black lines are currently being introduced. They are naturally polled and have a docile temperament making them easy to handle.
