2 DECEMBER: JALALABAD, AFGHANISTAN Nine Taliban insurgents took part in major suicide attack against a NATO base; three were killed in suicide missions and another six died in the subsequent battle. Initially, two vehicles packed with explosives sped towards the main gate of the base and then blew up. NATO helicopters then fi red on the other insurgents as they continued the attack with rocket-propelled grenades, mortars and small arms fi re. All the attackers were killed, along with fi ve Afghans; some foreign troops were injured.


20 DECEMBER: ALEPPO, SYRIA Anti-government militants allegedly fi red at a Syrian Airways fl ight as it was preparing to take off from Aleppo airport.


21 DECEMBER: LUBUMBASHI, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO Unidentifi ed gunmen fi red at a patrol of police offi cers, soldiers and the Republican Guard when they tried to stop them near Lubumbashi International Airport


1 JANUARY: JASPER, ALABAMA Three teenagers were killed in a Piper Twin Comanche which crashed near Jasper, Alabama. It is believed that the aircraft had been stolen for a joyride by one of the teenagers, who was a student pilot.


15 DECEMBER: PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN 30 people were injured when Taliban militants launched a rocket attack against Peshawar Airport. It was also reported that a suicide bomber had been part of the attack, carried out by ten militants, fi ve of whom were killed at the scene and the other fi ve were killed the following day.


8 JANUARY: QANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN Rockets were fi red at Qandahar Airport whilst a Pakistan International Airlines aircraft was on the tarmac preparing to depart for Quetta.


21 JANUARY: CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA


18 DECEMBER: SEATTLE, WASHINGTON Thieves stole 7,000 Nintendo Wii U consoles from a warehouse near SeaTac airport. They also stole a Seattle Air Cargo


An attempted cash-in-transit heist took place near the Cape Town International Airport when security guards picked up money from the airport in the early hours of the morning. A white Mercedes-Benz began following their van and rammed into it causing it to overturn. The attackers then started shooting at the security van, but when the security guards returned fi re the attackers ran away.
