3 DECEMBER: DALLAS, TEXAS An American Airlines flight preparing to depart for Guatemala City was delayed after a disruptive Guatemalan passenger started screaming that he wanted to get off and that there was a bomb on board.


4 DECEMBER: LIVERPOOL, UK Nerijus Stankaitis, 26, was removed from a Ryanair flight bound for Vilnius due to his disruptive behaviour prior to take-off. An air pistol and hunting knife were later found in the checked luggage that he had originally checked-in for the flight.


11 DECEMBER: NEW DELHI, INDIA An Indian passenger was arrested after a Thai Airways flight arrived from Bangkok. He had allegedly sexually harassed a crewmember on board.


13 DECEMBER: AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS A group of 17 passengers were arrested when their KLM flight from Glasgow landed in Amsterdam. They were travelling to attend a Swedish House Mafia concert. Crewmembers had been threatened and three men were alleged to have groped female flight attendants; the other 14 members of the group were released after being fined €750 each.


17 DECEMBER: PERTH, AUSTRALIA Justin Richard Cooke, 34,


allegedly caused the diversion of a Qantas flight en route from Sydney to Tokyo when he became intoxicated. Although


restrained, he still managed to assault and spit at crewmembers.


19 DECEMBER: SHANNON, EIRE Damian Kington, 34, consumed Xanax and Ambien tablets with alcohol on board a British Airways aircraft en route from JFK to London City airport. He became aggressive towards other passengers, prompting the Captain to intervene. When Kington head-butted the Captain, he was restrained and the Captain opted to divert to Shannon. Kington was later ordered to pay €3,367 in compensation to the airline and €1,000 to the poor box.

22 DECEMBER: SUDBURY, CANADA A 55-year-old man was arrested due to his behaviour on an Air Canada flight.


27 DECEMBER: FORT MYERS, FLORIDA Nana Mimura, 45, was arrested at the Southwest Florida International Airport after she argued with ticket agents and resisted arrest. Her partner, Alex Zampeiri, had also been involved in the dispute but had backed down before being arrested.


31 DECEMBER: LYON, FRANCE Two intoxicated women caused a British Airways flight, en route from London Gatwick to Tunis, to divert to Lyon. It was reported that the women, aged 43 and 50, swore at children, threatened a family, tried to enter the flight deck and lit cigarettes in the toilets. 1 JANUARY: THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, INDIA An intoxicated Russian passenger on board an Emirates flight, operating from Dubai, was questioned by authorities on arrival for having allegedly been smoking on board. He was released when he apologised to the flight attendant who had reported him.


2 JANUARY: INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA Alois Vetter, 45, was arrested for refusing to turn off his mobile phone on board a Southwest flight preparing to depart for Denver.


3 JANUARY: SINGAPORE Bruce Griffiths, 47, was arrested for swearing on board a Tiger Airlines flight.


3 JANUARY: REYKJAVIK, ICELAND A 46-year-old intoxicated passenger made the headlines when he was photographed having been bound up and gagged with duct tape on board an Icelandair flight en route from Reykjavik to JFK. He was not charged.


5 JANUARY: CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA William Hilton Paul, the 19-year-old son of Senator Rand Paul, was arrested for


allegedly physically assaulting a flight attendant on a flight to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. He was also charged with consuming alcohol underage, disorderly conduct, and being intoxicated and disruptive.


7 JANUARY: TIRUPATI, INDIA Jayashankar, 50, was arrested when his SpiceJet flight from Hyderabad landed. He was accused of having sexually assaulted a female passenger on board.


10 JANUARY: DARWIN, AUSTRALIA The behaviour of a passenger who became so angry about the cost of a sandwich on a Virgin flight, which had just departed Darwin for Perth, caused the flight to turn back to Darwin.


11 JANUARY: PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA A passenger on board an Aero flight bound for Lagos attempted to disembark from the plane just as it was about to take-off.


20 JANUARY: NEW YORK Barbara and Brent Brotine were removed from a JetBlue flight preparing to depart from New York for Chicago after Barbara Brotine argued with a flight attendant about the size of her carry-on bag.


26 JANUARY: QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND A 63-year-old intoxicated Scottish man was escorted off a Qantas plane after he was allegedly abusive to a flight attendant during the boarding process.


28 JANUARY: TAIPEI, TAIWAN


Zhuang, 42, caused an Air Macau flight to return to Taipei after he refused to stop smoking and was abusive to an air hostess.


30 JANUARY: TORONTO, CANADA Robert Baudner, 59, allegedly assaulted two flight attendants on a Sunwing flight. When the flight landed in Toronto he was charged with assault and mischief.
