detection is essential. The cooled InGaAs/InP avalanche photodiode and associated electronics have been designed for achieving low dark count and after pulsing rates in free-running mode. The module can operate at three detection probability levels of 10, 15 and 20 per cent, with a dead time that can be set between 1µs and 25µs. Arrival time of photons is reflected by a 100ns TTL pulse available at the SMA connector, with a timing resolution as low as 250ps at 20 per cent efficiency.

Jenoptik will be presenting new products and advanced technologies in the fields of optics, lasers and infrared technology. Jenoptik will present the femtosecond laser JenLas D2.fs with improved parameters. Maintaining stable beam quality, the output power and pulse repetition rate of the laser have been increased to allow for faster material processing in industry and medical technology.

Laser Components will be exhibiting its pulsed laser diodes with fibre pigtails at Photonics West. The fast axis collimation lenses are assembled directly in front of the pulsed laser diode chip. The semi-automatic mounting set-up means the fibres can be assembled to within just a few µm.
Ocean Optics has introduced the Apex 785 Raman Spectrometer, the first in its Elite series of spectrometers, lasers and accessories. The Apex is a modular, small- footprint spectrometer that uses a virtual slit design licensed from Tornado Spectral Systems. Apex is optimised for 785nm laser excitation Raman spectroscopy. Its higher resolution enables better resolved peaks and observation

This allows coupling efficiencies of >85 per cent to be achieved. Peak power levels of >100W out of the fibre can be reached, depending on the laser diode chip and fibre core diameter. Applications include laser scanners, measurement, fibre optic, medical, military and illumination technologies. These diodes can be used in military applications at temperatures between -40°C and +85°C, and are available at wavelengths of 905nm and 1550nm.

PicoQuant will introduce three new product developments at SPIE Photonics West. The products are a supercontinuum white light laser with variable repetition rates and external triggering capabilities, a non-descanned detection unit with Hybrid-PMT detectors for laser scanning microscopes and the new SymPhoTime 64 software package for fluorescence microscopy applications.
