Crested Iris” A native of eastern U.S. woodlands, these pixie charmers grow only 4 to 6 inches tall, freely bearing their crested flowers in April and May. The 1 to 2 inch blooms are generally pale blue with a navy halo and a small yellow crest at the base of each outer petal. The plant forms neat fans of lance- shaped leaves. I. kaempferi) Japanese gardeners began collecting plants of I. ensata from the wild over 800 years ago and hybridizing has made them one of the most fascinating rhizomatous iris. I. foetidissima #SIR73 An iris grown for its spectacular seed pods that explode in late summer to reveal bright scarlet bead-like seeds.
