Spring Planted Bulbs

GERANIUM MACULATUM #SGE05 Size: Bareroot plants “Wild Geranium”, “Cranesbill” This charming

wildflower is found in moist woodlands and along forest edges from Maine to Manitoba and southward as far as Oklahoma and

South Carolina. Easy to cultivate, they make nice garden subjects for lightly shaded areas. Their rather hairy, lobed and toothed medium green leaves are slightly spotted; thus, the common name “Spotted Cranesbill”. In spring its quarter-size, 5 petaled, lilac to pink and occasionally white flowers appear over several weeks. Plants go semi-dormant after their seed is shed. Cultivated stock. Unlike standard gladiolus, these dwarf charmers will overwinter in the garden through Zone 5, although we recommend several inches of mulch be applied in areas of Zone 5 where the ground freezes hard. GLORIOSA Top Size “Glory Lily” Our neighbor grew this exotic flowering vine from Africa on a fence. When the vine reached 3 feet it flowered,

and our friend heralded the event like a new father. And no wonder - the conspicuous 4 to 5 inch flowers almost glow! Long, narrow, wavy petals flare dramatically backward while the stamens protrude forward like a lily. In the north grow it as a summer vine and harvest the tubers in autumn.
