Spring Planted Bulbs
CARDIOCRINUM GIGANTEUM Bulb Size: 4-5 year old flowering size #SCD01 A very fragrant and majestic member of the lily family which thrives in rich, moist soil and filtered sun- light. Native to the Himalayas, the 6 inch pure white trumpets are adorned with deep red throats. Broad, heart-shaped leaves up to 18 inches long spiral up the 6 to 9 foot stems which can reach 3 to 4 inches in diameter at the base. The
hill people of Nepal make musical pipes of the hollow stems. Mature bulbs die after flowering, but leave behind a number of bulblets that will bloom in 3 to 5 years. Our select bulbs should flower within 2 seasons. [Ht: 6'-9'+, Bl: Late Summer, Zones: 7 to 10, SSH]

CAULOPHYLLUM THALICTROIDES Size: Multi-eyed divisions “Blue Cohosh” #SCT01 This North American native woodland plant has lush, airy foliage that gives it the appear- ance of a giant columbine. The extraordinary violet-gray color of the emerging leaves be- comes delicate blue-green as they mature. Foli- age remains attractive throughout the summer. Starry flowers appear on stems just above the leaves in spring followed by waxy green berries that turn deep blue-black when ripe. Although it often takes several years to become fully es- tablished, the many eyes of a mature plant will send up a bush of stems one to three feet high that is lovely intermingled with ferns, Jack- in-the-Pulpits and Solomon’s Plume. Plant in rich soil in a shady, well-drained location. Soil may be slightly acid, but an occasional dose of lime improves overall color and vigor. Rarely offered as seeds may lay dormant for two to three years before sprouting.
