thedaily www.iseurope.org 29-31 January 2013, Amsterdam RAI, NL NEW VIP Preview Edition One day is not enough, say ISE 2013 organisers

As Amsterdam prepares to host the largest-ever Integrated Systems Europe, the event’s organisers are recommending that visitors should include at least one overnight stay in their travel plans. “Our Amsterdam location

makes it easy for attendees to fly into the show early in the morning and leave the same evening, but in all honesty, ISE is now much too big to see in a single day,” said Mike Blackman, managing director of show organiser Integrated Systems Events.

All the vital statistics indicate that there will be more for visitors to see at this year’s event than ever before. More than 800 exhibitors will occupy over 32,000 net square

metres at the RAI, with every hall of the award-winning venue being used for the first time by the show. Hall 8 has been added to the floorplan for ISE 2013; it will host an extension of the show’s Digital Signage area as well as a mix of

other AV and systems integration technologies, including profes- sional audio, lighting control and building automation. This also enables the walkway connecting

Halls 7 and 8 of the RAI to be used at ISE for the first time, creating a circular route around the 12 halls. Over 40,000 attendees from more than 130 countries are expected to come through the doors of the RAI on the three show days. In addition, ISE 2013 is now firmly positioned as a focal point for manufacturer R&D activity. More than 1,000 product launches are due to be made at this year’s show, many of them global debuts. For Blackman, the continuing

growth of the show makes it all the more important for visitors to give themselves the opportunity to take in everything ISE 2013 has to offer – and that includes events that are taking place before the

exhibition opens. “We have pre-show events such

as our inaugural Smart Building Conference, the Keynote Address by

the globally renowned cyber-illu- sionist Marco Tempest and ISE’s 10th Birthday Party – all taking place on Monday 28 January, the eve of the show,” he said. “So there’s really every incentive for people to arrive early, book a night or two in a hotel and really get the best out of ISE.” For anyone who is still not con- vinced that there will be enough to keep them occupied at ISE 2013, Blackman cites a revealing statistic from his organisation’s analysis of ISE visitor behaviour patterns. “Most newcomers who give the show only a day end up coming back for a longer stay the following year, and that really tells its own story,” he concluded.

New InfoComm CEO’s ‘dream job’ Smart Building Conference

David Labuskes, who assumed the role of CEO and director of Info- Comm International at the start of this month, has shared his thoughts with thedailyon taking up the new position. Describing his new role as “a dream job”, he spoke of his admi- ration for the association, to which he has belonged for 10 years. “Dur- ing that time I have been extraordi- narily impressed by the quality of the organisation and its member- ship. The idea that I could serve the organisation in the role as executive

engineering firm., Labuskes said he brought to the role “understanding of the industry from a participant’s perspective” as well as “experience of several successful entrepreneurial positions involving technology and product development”.

He also praised InfoComm’s

The conference programme at ISE 2013, which commences on Mon- day 28 January, includes the inau- gural Smart Building Conference. A joint venture of ISE’s co-

owners InfoComm International and CEDIA, the Smart Building Conference is expected to appeal to architects, design consultants, developers, electrical contractors and other key stakeholders in the construction sector – as well as to ISE’s traditional audience of inte- grators, distributors and manu- facturers.

Sporting an impressive line-up of international speakers, the Conference will feature expert case studies that illustrate the dif- ferent possibilities available in specialist technology areas, while consultants and educators will present the bigger picture.
