Mounts – the most important afterthought?
It’s never a good move to put off thinking about mounting solutions until the last minute

A FULL-SCALE digital signage installation is a complicated business and involves being able to balance the requirements of the client, the desire to use the latest future-proof technology and the reality of delivering everything within budget. Added to this are the practical considerations of bringing everything together on-site at the right time, quite often out of office hours. Given this it’s no wonder that installers often have little time to research what can be seen as sundry requirements like picking the right mounting solution. At Peerless-AV we consider this particular afterthought to be by far the most important decision that is so often overlooked. This one seemingly simple choice can have far-reaching implications. I’m certain that many installers and integrators would wake in a cold sweat at the thought of a situation where everybody and everything is in situ– their staff, the electronics, the wiring and the client – ready to install a videowall to a fixed project deadline, only to
find that the mount is not compatible with the display being used. Not only would this be time consuming and costly, it could also be potentially damaging to your reputation and future business with that customer. In addition to universal compatibility, one of the vital considerations in selecting any mounting solution must be the ease of installation and the degree of post-mounting adjustment. In an ideal world every surface would be perfectly flat, ceilings and walls exactly square and there’d never be utilities in the wall where you want to drill. However in reality these are just some of the challenges facing any installer. Choosing a mounting solution with the correct amount of micro adjustment is a must, particularly in videowall applications where even the slightest misalignment between displays can make what should be a seamless appearance look ‘tiled’. Every time a mount has to be taken down and repositioned, the time spent trying to calculate the required position of each mount in a videowall array could be saved. We all know that ‘time is money’ so the ability to reduce installation times by up to 60% can make a huge difference to a project

and have a significant effect on the installer’s bottom line.
SERVICING NEEDS And the potential savings don’t end once the
installation is finished. Just as critical is the consideration of the ongoing servicing of any

digital signage set-up. And with most displays in high- traffic areas, servicing and maintenance needs to be simple to minimise disruption and restore the content as quickly as possible. The ability to access individual displays anywhere in an array, with sufficient space to reach all
the cables and connections, will enable this servicing. One final consideration for
every project has to be safety. With public liability issues to the fore, it has never been more important to use mounts that are manufactured to the highest standards of quality and safety. Peerless was instrumental in driving the establishment of recognised industry safety standards for AV mounts over a decade ago with Underwriters Laboratories (UL). This close co-operation continues with a fully accredited UL testing facility situated within the Peerless- AV manufacturing plant. New technologies such as
touchscreens, interactive displays, digital signage, tablets and other mobile devices are changing the way we shop, communicate and interact with one another. Digital media is no longer a nice-to-have messaging system but a must-have
interactive marketing platform and this is taking it into ever expanding markets and physical locations. And with every project, market and setting having its own challenges, it’s important to maximise each opportunity by investing the time to find the ideal mounting solution. It’s no wonder that we advocate this decision as being one of the first and most important of any project. With nearly 50 years’
experience in innovative mounting solutions, Peerless has the expertise to deliver the right form and function for every digital signage project.
