TRANSFORMERS march into Universal

UNIVERSAL Orlando Resort has announced details of its next blockbuster attraction – TRANSFORMERS: The Ride – 3D, which will bring the intergalactic

battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons to the Florida theme park next summer. Already attracting the crowds at

Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore, TRANSFORMERS: The Ride – 3D is described as an action-packed ride experience that sees riders come face to face with Megatron. They dodge explosions and attacks by the Decepticons as they fight to save mankind alongside Optimus Prime and the Autobots. Universal worked closely with Michael

Bay, the director of the TRANSFORMERS film series and the ride’s creative consultant, to bring the action of the films to life. Transformers films - Transformers (2007), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) and Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon (2011) – have grossed more than $2 billion combined worldwide at the box office.

US Airways’ new transatlantic options

US Airways is to start daily transatlantic flights from Heathrow to its hub in Charlotte, North Carolina, next spring. The service will go on to Miami, offering a one-stop service to Florida from London and will complement the airline’s daily flights to Philadelphia from Heathrow. The new route will start in March 2013.

Las Vegas in the money

LAS Vegas, which expects to record an eight per cent increase in UK visitors this year, is aiming for further growth in 2013 by increasing its marketing funds by 10%. A pot of around $90m will be spent globally, with a significant chunk in the UK, its largest overseas market, said Rossi Ralenkotter, president and CEO of Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. International travel represents 16% of business but Ralenkotter is looking to increase this to 30%. “Increased airlift will drive even more demand. We are doing more consumer advertising over the next 15 months but want to continue to work with tour operators and will still have a component of trade marketing,” said Ralenkotter. The airline is also to resume a daily non-

The airline will operate flights to Shannon on 176-seat dual-class Boeing 757-200 aircraft until September 3 2013. The seasonal service complements US Airways' existing year-round daily service to Dublin from Philadelphia and seasonal daily service to Charlotte.

offer around 72,000 seats a week, following new flights from Manchester by Virgin Atlantic last year and an additional flight from British Airways. Las Vegas will host the US travel trade

convention, Pow-Wow, next year (June 8-12). It last staged the trade event in 2008 and has added over 25,000 new hotel rooms since, to total 152,000 rooms. www.lasvegastourism.com
