North America The US is set to reap the benefi ts of its new public-private marketing organisation, Brand USA which will launch its latest advertising campaign at the beginning of 2013. New York has long been popular with Brits but visitor numbers are down from their 2009 peak and have remained fl at at around one million since then. NYC & Company’s Fred Dixon said he expected numbers to be about the same for 2013. The city is launching a bike share scheme
similar to London’s ‘Boris Bikes’ next spring. It will also be highlighting little-known ‘new’ areas, with the fi rst one being Long Island City. In Québec, Montréal’s iconic Ritz
Hotel has reopened after a £125 million restoration. The Montréal Snow Village returns for a second year, opening from January 18 to the end of March 2013, with the village modelled on the New York skyline. Virgin Holidays Head of Product and Commercial, North America, Angus Bond, says demand for the US in 2013 is showing “good year on year demand and growth.” Virgin has also seen strong early booking demand for Orlando for 2013.
