Metal panels provide cost-eff ective solution to new offi ce complex
The more than 70,000-square-foot and two- story BHP/Petrohawk offi ce complex in Shreveport, La., includes a training facility, teleconferencing space and offi ces for more than 270 employees. The building includes Bossier City, La.-based McElroy Metal’s 24-gauge Mega Rib panels with exposed Aus- tenitic high-quality stainless steel fasteners and fi nished in Charcoal Kynar. Prevot Design Ser- vices, Shreveport, and APAC, Houston, served as the project architects. McInnis Brothers Inc., Minden, La., was the general contractor, and Terry’s Roofi ng and Sheet Metal, Bossier City, installed the panels. Metal panels were chosen to provide a
sleek and high-tech image for the new facility. Metal panels cost less than masonry and metal panels are lighter than masonry so they saved on the structural cost of the building. The pan- els went up quickly and saved on labor costs when compared to masonry. One very interesting green aspect of the
building is the site was hydraulically fi lled with sandy material from the bed of the Red River via a dredge with a permit approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, saving roughly 50 percent on select fi ll cost while aiding the
maintenance of the navigation channel of the Red River and saving almost a million dollars on trucking infi ll material. Other green fea- tures are the variable refrigerant volume air conditioning equipment and solar panels for electric generation. The building is L-shaped to maximize exterior windows for private offi ces. The building design maximizes the number of exterior private offi ces with a view.
