Metal panels clad realty offi ce renovation

The Arden Realty building in Irvine, Calif., un- derwent a major renovation that included renovating a facility originally constructed in the early 1970s that used a rough-fi nished stucco. “Arden had been wanting to do the rehab for

several years but hadn’t found a product that fi t their budget,” according to Dale Gronewold, owner of Emerald Metal Products, Signal Hill, Calif. “We initially considered three cladding material

concepts—stone, stucco and metal,” says Randall Patrick, principal with Spaces Planning & Design, Irvine. “Once we settled on metal, we searched for a product that would meet the budget. We contacted [sales representative, Poway, Calif.-based] Architec- tural Systems Inc., and they were instrumental in our selection of [Indianapolis-based Citadel Architectural Products’] Citadel RV system. It met our budget needs and the fi nished job turned out great. The trans- formation of this building is really amazing.” Emerald attached a 16-gauge framing structure

and installed the Citadel Architectural Products’ pan- els over it. The perimeter framing was built in 40-foot sections on the roof and lowered down. “The biggest challenge was with the existing building being out of square and out of plumb,” Gronewold notes. “The conditions were defi nitely not good.” More than 36,000 square feet of Citadel’s Enve-

lope 2000 metal composite material (MCM) highlight the renovation. The panels were fi nished in Clear Anodized and Shasta White and installed using the Reveal (RV) System, a fi eld-assembled attachment method utilizing perimeter moldings. Architectural Systems also designed and engineered the light- gauge framing system.
