INDUSTRY NEWS XXXX Industry icon Ted S. Miller passes
Metal Architecture is sad to report the passing of industry icon and Metal Architecture columnist, Ted S. Miller after a 10-year battle with colon cancer. Miller was CEO of Austell, Ga.-based The Miller-Clapperton
Partnership, a fabricator of metal composite material (MCM) panels, working in 43 states and multiple countries. Miller built the company in partnership with David Clapperton and Doug Bruton, but it was through his activity with the Metal Construction Asso- ciation, where he served on the board of directors, that he became known across the country as a person who was devoted to the metal construction industry, it’s success and improvement. Born and raised in Mableton, Ga., Miller attended South Cobb High School and graduated from
Southern Technology Institute (now known as Southern Polytechnic State University) in June 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. Miller was a member of First Baptist Church of Smyrna where he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and sang in the choir. He is survived by his wife, Jo; his sons, Zeke and Zane; and four grandchildren. To honor his memory, the family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Fifth public comment period now open for LEED v4
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) an- nounced the opening of the fifth public comment period for the proposed update to its LEED green building program. The comment period, which will close on December 10, enables the building community to view the most recent draft of the rating systems and provide comments where any substantive changes have been made. “LEED v4 will have the greatest impact of
any rating system we’ve developed by focusing on building performance and rewarding innovative product manufacturers who offer best in class products,” says Scot Horst, senior vice president, LEED, USGBC. “LEED v4 will help change the way project teams think, integrate, plan, execute and operate their buildings.”
