CTC Update UPDATE FROM THE CANADIAN TOURISM COMMISSION

CTC WELCOME

Feel the goosebumps with Canada

BACK in the summer that never was here in the UK, I travelled to Canada with British tour operators to visit the

Bugaboos region in British Columbia. Helicoptering into the mountains for heli-hiking, tucking into the amazing food and seeing the operators' response to this amazing region reminded me of how many other goosebump moments Canada has to offer beyond what’s traditionally sold here in the UK. As we gear up to attend this year’s

TRAINING

CANADIAN training for travel agents has come of age and is celebrating its 21st anniversary. First launched in 1991 the goal was to build trade knowledge and develop a core network of 100 expert agents across the UK. For 10 years, that core group was

promoted in brochures, invited to training events and roadshows and taken to see Canada for themselves on fam trips. In 2000 a binder-based modular training programme was then launched paving the way for online training and

ultimately, in 2010, the pioneering Canada Specialist Programme, a global training platform still running today. There are now over 1200 UK agents qualified in selling Canada, with several hundred in training. Most recent updates to the site have added personal holiday offers available for qualified specialists. Qualified agents are still actively

promoted to consumers and supported with fams and roadshows and some of the very first 100 agents are still part of the programme including Jim Tadgell, Lucia Kaye, Anne Ward, Charmaine

Hallmark and Trevor Beckford. Rupert Peters, regional managing

director for the CTC said: “The CTC has steadfastly supported the industry with top level-training resources. This has ensured agents understand the country and can sell its experiences with the utmost confidence.” Qualifed agents who visit the Canada stand at WTM this year will receive a special 21st birthday gift regardless of the number of years they have been with the programme! www.canadaspecialist.co.uk

A study measuring public perceptions of countries around the world has ranked Canada the most recommended destination to visit – leapfrogging former favourites Australia and New Zealand. The study by the Reputation Institute measured the trust, esteem, admiration and good feelings the public held towards 50 countries, as well as perceptions of peoples' quality of life, safety and attention to the environment. It showed Canada was also the number one most recommended country in which to live, work and study. www.canada.travel
