SHORT SHIFTS continued...
HCC: Getting back to your own cars, what’s the one that got away?
RC: The one I miss is our 1961 Porsche 365B, which we sold to fi- nance a down payment on our first house. We had a lot of memories with that car, and I sat in the bed- room and cried as the new owner drove it away.
HCC: Finally, as a woman in a prominent role in the classic car industry, what advice do you have for kids — particularly girls — who have an interest in old cars?

finished 49th and 59th, respectively,
RC: My advice is to go for it. Look at all the successful women in racing. Pebble Beach, prestigious race tracks like Laguna Seca and the New York Auto Show have or have had women at their helms. Many schools such as McPherson College offer degrees in Automo- tive Restoration and Conservation. I hope all young people start to take an interest in vintage cars and will become the future caretakers of our automotive heritage.
TWO EVENTS AROUND
THE CORNER
CORVETTE FUNFEST 9.14 - 9.16 Effingham, IL
corvettefunfest.com
From June 23 to July 1, the Great Race ran from Hagerty’s hometown of Traverse City, Michigan, through Canada, back into the U.S. through New York, and finished in Dear- born, Michigan. Hagerty fielded two teams — The Guys (Jonathan Klinger and Davin Reckow in a 1930 Ford Model A) and The Girls (Tabetha Sals- bury and Kacy Smith in a 1962 Interna- tional Travelall). Our teams
MidAmerica Motorworks’ Corvette Funfest gets bigger and better every year, and the 19th annual event is now a full four days. The show will celebrate the iconic 1963 Sting Ray and will also feature a swap meet for the first time. A “high-mileage parking area” will showcase the daily drivers out there, with special placement for Corvettes with 150,000, 250,000, 350,000 and 500,000 miles. Add to that special club benefits, live music, great food and terrific camaraderie, and this staple Corvette event deserves a place on your calendar.
while overall victory went to Barry and Irene Jason in a 1935 Ford Coupe. For complete results and to learn more about next year’s Great Race, go to

AACA NATIONAL FALL MEET
10.10 - 10.13 Hershey, PA
hersheyaaca.org
“Hershey,” as it is simply known, is one of the largest classic car shows and flea markets in the country. The annual event fea- tures more than 9,000 flea market spaces, more than 1,000 car corral spots and about 1,500 show cars. It’s the place to be if you’re on the hunt for obscure (and even not-so-obscure) parts for your classic. Plus, the spectacle is pretty amazing, which is why so many gearheads have it at the top of their automotive bucket lists.
