UK campaign boosts Colombia arrivals
THE UNESCO world heritage city of Cartagena brought together key players from across the Latin America region at a time when interest and bookings are growing steadily. The UK is becoming an important
market for the region and hosting TMLA in Cartagena signalled particular recognition for tourism to Colombia. Juan Guillermo, Director of Proexport
Colombia in London, said: “Hosting TMLA this year has been the icing on the cake for us, especially as tourism in Colombia is going from strength to strength. We have just completed our largest ever tourism campaign in the UK, with visitor number increasing year on year and we are confident this will continue." "Colombia is a truly extraordinary location
for a holiday, the second most diverse country on the planet, with something to offer every market – we have breathtaking Caribbean beaches, cosmopolitan cities, awe-inspiring archaeological ruins, copious
tropical rainforests, our iconic coffee plantations and some of the most staggering mountain ranges in the world. "We currently also have over 4000

Suriname debuts
SURINAME attended TMLA for the first time this year to help raise awareness of its relatively unknown tourism appeal. Karel Dawson, Director of Tourism for the Suriname Tourism Foundation, said: “TMLA was a perfect opportunity to start generating a strong and aggressive buzz about Suriname among some of the biggest players to South America. “Travellers everywhere are searching for destinations offering genuinely authentic experiences and that is exactly what Suriname is all about. With its unique combination of culture, adventure, nature and history, it's South America's undiscovered wonder. Booking Suriname has never been easier with daily flights from neighbouring countries including Caribbean Islands such as Trinidad”.

THE Falkland Islands are positioning themselves as the perfect destination for travellers who want something a little off-the-beaten-track or have an interested in wildlife. Falkland Islands' specialist, Sally Ellis,
of International Tours & Travel said: “The islands are a niche destination appealing predominantly to wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. Visitors here can see the largest black-browed albatross colony, plus up to five different species of penguin." Ellis addes: "The Falklands are best
seen by island-hopping to ensure visitors get to see a good range of the Islands; experience the best in wildlife, scenery and hospitality. End the itinerary with a couple of nights in our colourful capital city, Stanley, great for some souvenir shopping and a visit to the world's most accessible king penguin colony at Volunteer Point.” See In Person on page 53.
