SHOW PREVIEW: INFOCOMM MEA Second stop: Dubai

With organisers predicting a jump in visitor numbers from last year’s inaugural show, InfoComm MEA looks to be a building success, reports James McGrath

LAST YEAR’S first ever InfoComm Middle East and Africa (IFMEA) welcomed a respectable total of 12,131 visitors to the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre as 80 exhibitors displayed their wares.

“The show last year went much better than we had dared expect, given that it was our inaugural event and it was launched quite late in the day, some nine months before the show,” says Richard Tan, general manager of show organiser InfoComm Asia. Even with such a

successful initial turnout, organisers believe IFMEA has the potential to exceed last year’s visitor numbers – with Tan pointing out that the exhibition’s co-location with an expansive GITEX Technology Week posed logistical problems for those who arrived at the venue intending to visit both events. “This year's show is building on the initial ‘introduction’ last year to an InfoComm event, and we know that there were visitors that didn't make it to the IFMEA hall for whatever reasons, that would have heard about it, and we expect them to turn up this year. Judging from early pre- reg numbers and market buzz, we expect this year's attendance to surpass last year’s,” explains Tan. This year will see a change

of venue, with IFMEA instead taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre on 14-18 October 2012; it’s set to feature the majority of 2011’s exhibitors, following a 90% re-booking rate.

The Summit includes the InfoComm University Seminar, Indu stry Conferences, CTS Prep Course, IMCCA Unified Conferencing Seminar and manufacturers’ presentations. (14:00-15:00); ‘Visual Collaboration in the Cloud’ (15:00-16:00); and ‘How Mobility & Mobile Video will Change your World’ (16:00- 17:00). Meanwhile, an Education Industry Conference will run on the Wednesday of the show and will explore subjects such as: ‘Massive Lecture Capture Deployments: Go Big or Go Home’ (14:00-15:00); and ‘Simulation & Skills Assessment Environments: Design Driven by Pedagogy, Space and Technology’.

SHOW FLOOR Alongside the exhibitors rebooking for 2012 are a number of companies exhibiting for the first time. Tanvir Osama, director sales – Middle East & India at Prysm, which is demonstrating its Laser Phosphor Display technology for the first time in the region, explains the decision to exhibit this year: “Prysm has regularly participated at the InfoComm exhibitions in the US since

2009 and this year we extended this to include the China show and subsequently, to reach out to the company’s customer base in the MEA region, we will be exhibiting at the MEA edition.” Tannoy is also set to

feature at the show for the first time, with the InfoComm hallmark proving to be a key factor in the company’s decision. Mark Flanagan, marketing manager for Tannoy, Lab.gruppen and Lake, comments: “As one of the most robust and fastest- growing markets for Tannoy and Lab.gruppen’s installation products, the Middle East is becoming ever more significant to us, and our decision to participate in this new InfoComm show was a no-brainer. “We’re interested to see what additional momentum this show can bring to our business in terms of new customers – something that we’ve found lacking in other regional shows. As a model, InfoComm shows have proven

successful for us in other parts of the world, and we expect this to be no different.”

Educating the region on specific technologies and solutions is one driving force behind exhibitors’ interest in the show. Crestron is offering attendees the opportunity to experience its free seminars. The company’s DMC-D training will be held on the first day of the show at its exhibition stand, while various other training opportunities will be held on day two. These include: Crestron Capture HD and Digital Media – Building Management in Full Definition; Crestron Complete Building Management of the Existing Network; Crestron Core 3, the
