Emergency teams to share LTE video

A

lcatel-Lucent is to provide fi rst-response emergency teams the ability to view and rapidly share multiple video and data feeds simultaneously on mobile devices. T e First Responder Video allows fi re, ambulance and police teams to

share critical emergency situation information with operation controllers via video and data streams using 4G LTE mobile broadband networks. T e device optimizes bandwidth use and integrates multiple video feeds and other operational data into one single stream to transmit to situation commanders. T is enables the fast delivery of video and data among teams, allowing them to assess and respond to a situation more eff ectively, without compromising the overall delivery speed or quality of the LTE network. Philippe Agard, vice president of public safety at Alcatel-Lucent,

said: “Alcatel-Lucent’s First Responder Video capitalizes on our leading capabilities and expertise in mobile broadband solutions to deliver real effi ciencies for public safety agencies. T e solution has seen great results in a live end-to-end trial with the Polícia Militar do Estado de São Paulo, Brazil, allowing teams to be sent views from in-car cameras. Easy-to-use screens enhance operations in the toughest environments and the ability to maximize available bandwidth to share multiple high-quality video images on a variety of mobile devices maximizes cost of ownership at a time when budgets are being stretched.” First Responder Video employs a ‘thin client’ architecture which

ensures that data processing takes place at the powerful control centres, freeing the device itself to focus on receiving and sending images and data. It works with existing control centre dispatch applications and allows teams to send video and data to many diff erent types of mobile devices at the same time. Teams can adjust the number of video and data views as well as

the screen layout, so that information is delivered in a way that is appropriate to the situation as well as meaningful in relation to the size of the device.

Famous auctioneer set to go wireless

attersalls, the bloodstock auctioneer, has selected Xirrus Wireless Arrays to deliver high capacity BYOD connectivity at its Park Paddocks complex in Newmarket, Suffolk. Tattersalls is the world’s oldest, and Europe’s largest, bloodstock auctioneer, specializing in thoroughbred horses. Frank Rowlands, IT manager at Tattersalls, said: “A few years ago we introduced a business centre as a service for our clients and ever since demands for connectivity have grown exponentially – especially as wireless devices such as smartphones, tablets and notebooks have become commonplace. Our auctions are a public affair, regularly attracting a thousand people or more. We wanted to give customers and spectators a reliable wireless service across the entire complex.” The grounds at Park Paddocks extend to some 43 acres with some 820 horses on site at any given time. Sean Larner, vice president of international sales at Xirrus, said: “We’re

T

thrilled to be working with Tattersalls. The fi rm is a great example of how companies are innovating and diversifying to accommodate clients and to provide better experiences to customers and spectators.”

racker, the stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) and fl eet telematics company,

has teamed up with Wireless Logic, M2M managed services specialist. Through this partnership, Tracker will benefi t from a tailored suite of mobile connectivity services providing specialist M2M Sims from multiple networks. Tracker’s products will be further enhanced by Wireless Logic’s ‘SIMpro3’ platform-as-a-service (PaaS) enabling provisioning, monitoring and complete real- time visibility across Tracker’s growing SIM estate. control. Additionally, Tracker will have access to our multi-network private APNs. This will signifi cantly decrease capital expenditure on infrastructure, and will be supported by our dedicated account team which will manage Tracker’s ongoing connectivity requirements.” The move to Wireless Logic is central

to the constant advancement of Tracker Fleet, Tracker’s re-engineered fl eet tracking solution and more recently the launch of its Mesh Network, which acts as a listening device to identify stolen vehicles. The Mesh Network creates an added defence against vehicle theft by using other vehicles already fi tted with Tracker SVR units to detect stolen vehicles fi tted with Tracker, therefore creating its very own social network. Stephen Doran, managing director of

Tracker, said: “This new strategic partnership 9

with Wireless Logic gives Tracker unrivalled specialist support across the entire spectrum of M2M connectivity and related managed services. Our entire SIM estate will now be enhanced by greater visibility, giving us new levels of control, provisioning and tariff management.”
