UNDERSTANDING DELIVERY
Delivering through a global HSE framework
WSP is on a global HSE framework delivering services to a UK publicly listed, leading multi-sector engineering firm.
In 2011 we provided specific H&S support to the client in Asia-Pacific and in Europe.
In Europe, we mobilised in response to a contractor-construction incident and were able to provide clear and concise analysis based upon recognised protocols for the client.
In Asia we mobilised within 48 hours a multi-disciplinary incident investigation team of a structural engineer from China and an H&S lead practitioner from Australia to review critical plant failures. The report was received at Board level and regarded as ‘exemplar’.
We continue to work with the client on hazardous materials compliance in Europe and an aspect of that appointment has included workplace exposure and materials handling assessments.
In prior years we supported the client in the USA on EHS audits of facilities for insurance purposes, and in Sweden as part of their internal audit programme.
Achieving deep transformational change
Our Australian OHS team supported an engineering firm prior to acquisition on work place H&S behaviour and subsequently worked with the new company on corporate leadership and cultural change.
WSP developed an interactive training programme for the logistics workforce. We used accepted coaching techniques and real-life examples to effect an improvement in overall H&S performance and help staff understand the implications of unmanaged risks in their workplace.
Under the new ownership, our work has included site-level technical hygiene assessments, development of training and coaching programmes on leadership, human error, incident investigation and training of internal OHS representatives. We also worked with senior management to shape a regional safety strategy and facilitated its implementation through executive coaching and support.
The client has a more engaged work force, has reduced incidents and made material savings to the bottom line.
