Adult General Interest Hunter Safety Education


State-certified volunteer educators teach the basics of safe hunting, including hunter responsibility, wildlife management, firearm, ammunition and archery safety, first aid and survival techniques. Passing a Hunter Safety class is required for anyone born on or after January 1, 1980 who wants an Illinois hunting license. This course also meets the requirements for adult hunters in many other states. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 16. You must attend all classroom sessions and pass a written exam to receive a certificate. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend with their children.

This instructional class will show you how to take correct body measurements, how to draw your foundation patterns and how to incorporate various design techniques to make sewing patterns for your complete wardrobe – no matter what your shape or size. You will also learn how to copy the fashion looks seen in commercial pattern books, using your own measurements! The Dress Template Package is included in the class fee. This class teaches the pattern design process – it is assumed that attendees will already have a basic knowledge of fashion sewing.

Gardening


Gardening Tips for Fall and Winter Avid gardeners as well as the novice receive seeking tips on how to properly maintain their existing flower garden beds. Through PowerPoint presentation and interactive discussion, learn what to do in the garden from September through February including steps involved in preparing a new garden bed, planting trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs, the use of native plants, soil testing, pruning, Fall cleanup, composting, mulching, watering and protecting plants for the winter months. Handouts will be provided.

TU Floral Design for the Holidays


Learn professional tips and techniques to create interesting and decorative floral designs for the upcoming holidays. Through a PowerPoint presentation and demonstration, you will discover how to convert a plain pumpkin into a unique fall floral piece; design a Thanksgiving cornucopia for a special centerpiece for holiday dinner and decorate a silk floral wreath for your holiday door. Each class will discuss design strategies and the use of flowers, plants materials and fabricated materials for a long-lasting floral design. The instructor will demonstrate by planting one container of plant materials in class which will be auctioned off at the end of the class session.
