I have been in surgical practice here in Seattle for 50 years. Throughout that time my wife, Addy, and I have been privileged to help deliver over 300 diff erent translations of the Bible all around the world. I have learned that if you give people a hardcover NIV Witness Bible with their name on it, they don’t throw it away. T ey might shelve it for years, but it will stay with them, and when the time is right, the Bible will be there. So, I bought an imprint machine years ago, and I print the names of people I meet on new Bibles and give one to them. My wife and I are now old, and people often help us when we are out running errands around town. When they do, we take special note of it and ask for their name. T en we go home and print their name on a Bible that we can give to them the next time we see them.
Once I gave a Bible to a young man with his name imprinted on the cover, and I
hoped the boy would one day come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. T e boy’s mother called almost seven years later to tell me that her son had been introduced to Jesus by a friend and had come home asking for ‘that book’ that I had given him. T e boy had subsequently gotten saved, led his brother and mother to the Lord, and was then working on his father.
